Never mind staying at home in front of the heater, winter is upon us and it’s a perfect time to go skiing.
In Thredbo, over the summer the mountain department spent in excess of $2million completing stage 2 of the automation process, so Thredbo’s already extensive snowmaking network is now fully automated. To date $4million dollars has been invested over two years to bring the new system online. Thredbo also has some fantastic “Double Bay” style accommodation. Brand new for the 2007 ski season is Elevation Thredbo which combines the highest luxury ski chalet accommodation, unsurpassed views and convenience to all areas of the village.
Perisher Blue has been a hive of snow and frosty fun, with crowds flocking in record numbers on the June long weekend, and showing no signs of letting up. The positive start has been accompanied with an increase in Perisher Blue snow holidays bookings for the season. Daniela Kell, reservations manager for Perisher Blue said “We’ve seen a distinct increase in bookings since the first snowfalls in mid-late May and the phones are continuing to ring.”
Just when you thought you’d seen the last of the snow, think again. The Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast continues to be promising with predictions of more snow in the future. Recently, the temperature dropped as low as -8°C allowing the snowmaking guns to pump out snow in Thredbo, Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Blue Cow and Tube Town. Scattered snow showers and sub zero temperatures are forecast to continue throughout the season.
It’s a great time to forget about summer and head to the Mountains where cold is the new hot. Mountain Pass prices are reduced to an early season rate of $52 per day for Adults and $26 for Children until further notice. Couple this with fantastic early season rates in both Perisher and Thredbo and you can have yourself a early winter escape!
